Residents of Wheatlands
With darker nights approaching Redcar Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to remind residents to remain vigilant and take simple steps to help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.
Residents are encouraged to ensure that doors and windows are kept locked at times, even when at home. Using timer switches or leaving lights on can give the impression that your property is occupied, which can act as a deterrent. Valuables and keys should be kept out of sight and away from doors and windows, this will stop opportunists.
Vehicle owners are advised to secure their vehicles and avoid leaving items on display. Where possible, cars should be parked in well in well-lit areas and the use of additional security measures such as steering locks are recommended.
For those who are out after dark we advise choosing well-lit routes and remaining aware of surroundings. Avoiding unnecessary distractions such as mobile phones and headphones can also help reduce personal risk.
Officers from Redcar NPT will continue to conduct patrols and work closely with the community to address crime and antisocial behaviour as the nights get darker to keep your community feeling safe.
